Breath Assessment

This page works best viewed on a laptop!

We are born with a breath that gives us energy and balance.

Then, due to our modern lifestyle and other factors such us suppressed emotions and unresolved traumas, many of us adopt breathing habits that are dysfunctional. This adds stress to our system in a variety of ways.

Over-breathing is very common and it affects our energy levels, ability to calm down, sleep, blood flow, oxygenation, performance, and more.

Follow these simple steps to get an insight into your current breathing status.

I’ll get back to you with a follow up after you have hit SEND.

STEP 1: BOLT Test

  1. Take a normal breath in through your nose and allow a normal breath out through the nose.

  2. Hold your nose with your fingers to prevent air from entering your lungs.

  3. Time the number of seconds until you feel the first definite desire to breathe, or the first stresses of your body urging you to breathe. Be aware that the BOLT is not a test to see how long your max breath hold is. The BOLT test gives us an indication of how long it takes for the body to reach to increasing Co2 in the blood. IMPORTANT: Your inhalation after the hold should be calm and normal, otherwise you have held for too long.

  4. Release your nose, stop the timer, and breathe through your nose. Your inhalation at the end of the of the breath hold should be calm.

  5. Resume normal breathing.

  6. Fill in your score (in seconds) in the form below.
